There was a time when  you were told you could go to school (college) get a degree and you will definitely get a good job. You will work 30 years get a gold watch, retire and live happily ever after.

Going to college is not a guarantee any more (it is a great idea but not a guarantee). Most people with PhD degrees work for people who don't have one. Consider getting certifications (in addition to a degree)

The most IMPORTANT thing you can get is a BUSINESS LICENSE

If you get a great job in Corporate America and you are the absolute best worker in your department you still have NO security. Your job can just cease to exist, your whole department can been relocated to India.

You didn't get fired, your job just cease to exist.
